A website is now a central part of any successful company's marketing strategy.  This is your public face to the world.   A business needs to ask a number of questions to make its online presence successful:

  • What sets you apart from your competitors?

When we are asked to review websites it’s often because the sites are not generating leads or new business.  Many of these sites are graphically attractive yet have no strong central message.  Often the written material is interesting to the owners or managers of the company, yet it is not appealing to the prospects or customers.

  • Do your customers understand your message … in 7 seconds or less?

A website needs a central message that truly interests the prospects or customers. You have less time than you think to capture their interest - about 7 seconds. Is your message that clear?

Even if you succeed in getting the potential customer’s interest on the Home Page, many websites have horrible navigation systems that make it difficult for the users to simply become involved in the rest of the website.

  • Is your website too alive?

A personal pet peeve of mine is music or voices that start automatically.  In an office environment the extra noise is not welcome … and many employees don’t want to advertise that they are surfing the net. 

Some designers seek out excuses to use the latest technology just to make things flash and blink on your Home Page. Unfortunately, your potential new clients or existing customers don't really want this stuff. They want clear, well written, reasons about what your business can do for them … that your competitors can’t. 

  • Is your website doing what it should?
